Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner EL6989A Oxygen Ultra Canister Review

Listen, maybe because I am a man, and in our society men have been stereotyped as helpless boobs who couldn't make a bowl of cereal without the help of a wife/mom/fairy godmother, I should be not the person to review this product. But since my wife likes this vacuum, and because as such I cannot smash into a million pieces with a fungo bat, I have to write this review to get even the Electrolux Oxygen Ultra, an object that is now my sworn enemy, from now until the end of eternity.

I hate this vacuum.Every moment I use it is a chance to ruminate on how much I hate it.Seriously.I vacuum around the house saying to myself, "I hate this vacuum. You know what? This is a really terrible vacuum.I don't think I like this vacuum.Oh wait, did I just suck up the dog?"

It was clearly designed by someone rich enough to never have to use it.Let's start with the basic setup. The main body of the vacuum is something you drag behind you as you go from room to room. This would be a great thing if the house you're vacuuming happens to be empty. And maybe in Sweden or Switzerland or wherever they designed this godawful piece of garbage, that's all the rage now.But if you're someone who happens to have furnished their house with things like chairs and tables (and even the occasional ottoman), this means the Electrolux is constantly getting stopped by whatever objects you had the audacity to place in its way. With an upright vacuum, you don't have to drag anything. But you have to constantly drag the Electrolux everywhere you want to go.I'd like to drag it behind a truck going 150 mph, but that's about it.

Then there's the main, carpet-cleaning attachment of the Electrolux.I hate this attachment.First off, the attachment allows the main handle from the vacuum to be turned to the right, and to the right only.I even checked it for an hour just to make sure I hadn't made a mistake.Nope.This is the only way the attachment turns on the handle. Why?Who knows?Probably just to annoy me, because I paid $600 for the stupid thing.Oh sure, I can turn my hand and vacuum my carpet Gangsta-style now, but otherwise this is the kind of design flaw that makes you want to drive your Honda through Bed Bath & Beyond, just to get even.

And, if anything, this attachment sucks too hard.Like that fringe on your oriental rug?Sorry, the Electrolux thought that was lunch! But every rug could use a good shearing now and then. Also, the motor in the attachment spins so hard it makes controlling the thing darn near impossible. But hey, at least you can turn the handle to the right.

Did I mention that you can only get bags for the Ultra through Electrolux, and that the bags have to be shipped to you?I didn't?Don't worry, no one told me either.

The other attachments aren't so hot either. The attachment we use to vacuum the hardwood floor is stiff and cumbersome. And the coiling tube that goes to the main handle is almost always, without fail, twisted up in an awkward fashion.

Listen, I'm a simple guy. This is clearly what I get for being dumb enough to buy a $600 vacuum.I'm sure the Electrolux has the sucking power of 1,000 Kevin Federlines, and can filter out all the potential carcinogens and death spores I've been told pollute our air.But this isn't rocket science. It's a vacuum. You know why I vacuum? So that stuff looks like it's been vacuumed. That's all.Basic house vacuuming can be easily accomplished with any $100 Hoover out there. You can probably get one at a yard sale.Or maybe you can get my Electrolux at our next yard sale.If I'm sneaky enough, the wife won't notice.

I hate this vacuum.

Honeywell 3-Speed Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote HY-041W Review

Honeywell 3-Speed Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote HY-041W
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HONEYWELL CUSTOMER SERVICE:I bought this fan from TargetFall 2008 or Spring 2009.The fan stopped working around Spring 2010. I almost threw it away, until a friend told me to check about the warranty. The fan was around $70, so I figured why not. I emailed Honeywell Customer Service & told them the fan broke & that I didn't keep my receipt. The fan has a 5 year limited warranty. They told me to send the product back to them & they would resend a new product. I sent the fan back via FedEx & received a brand new fan in about a week. I am very pleased with Honeywell's customer service. ABOUT THE FAN:The fan is a bit loud, but I don't mind.I don't care for the breeze mode (switching from low to med or high speed), that function is too loud. I liked the idea of the flashlight in the remote control, but don't use it very often for the fan.

Dirt Devil Dynamite Plus Upright Vacuu, Review

Dirt Devil Dynamite Plus Upright Vacuu,
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this vacuum for thirty bucks so keep that in mind. There are units out there that cost ten times that. So how does the Dynamite Plus stack up?It sucks!Very, very well.I don't think I have ever used a vaccum that had such powerful suction. I bought a Dirt Devil cordless unit (the one that no one seems to like) about a year ago and it was garbage. I wondered if anyone really needed cordless while in the confines of their own home. Most likely not. Why not trade the dubious benefits of cordless for maximum sucking power? For the price there is proably no vacuum made that is more powerful. So why only 4 stars? Despite a vacuum that seems well built, convenient, light, bagless, portable, etc., there is one thing that is insanely ridiculous about the Dynamite Plus' design. All of that powerful suckiing power shoots right out a front grill of the vacuum.Like a tornado!!!!The first time I used it was in the kitchen it it literally blew all of the photos and notes off my refrigerator. The next time bordered on slapstick comedy if I could have considered it funny. I was vacuuming the hearth of my fireplace and the tornado-like exhaust fan blew ashes from the fireplace all over my living room!!!Who in their right mind would design a vacuum with a jet engine strong exhaust fan right in front pointing at the very dust and dirt you are going to vacuum?Final thought ... the plastic recepticle fills up very fast. I vacuumed what I thought was a clean tile floor in the kitchen and the dirt container was full. I emptied it and vacuumed my staircase and the dirt bag was full.Is this a bad thing? How can it be? The Dynamite Plus is sucking in dirt that I didn't even know existed. That's the whole reason I vacuum. So I would rate this as the best bargain of any vacuum I have ever seen except for that silly design flaw. It's not at all a reason to not purchase this vacuum. You just have to know how to avoid pointing it at things like fireplace ashes. Bottom line is I have never owned a vacuum with as much suction. This thing is dirt cheap for what it does.

We installed this fan in our bathroom remodel in 1996. Awesome choice. The room is only 10'x8' and it *totally* protected the finish on our custom cabinets and the painted walls. After 12 years, not One area of steam damage or mold. The motor finally gave out and I can't wait for the new one to arrive tomorrow so I can have another 12 years of a steam-free bathroom :O)

After using several types of tests for my graduate studies work, I can say that I much prefer the strip tests to the test bottle. The test bottle is only accurate with a right amount of liquid, and the test tablet has color to it, so you cannot tell if you really have bacteria in your water, or if your water is turning colors because the tablet has color to it.I would stick with a test strip type of product. For more on my testing, see [...].

Yh Lh Vicks 1.5 Gal Vaporizer Review

Yh Lh Vicks 1.5 Gal Vaporizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this unit to help humidify our house in the winter.Past experiences with cool mist humidifiers were poor - having to clean mysterious brown gunk off the electronic innards was disturbing. If you're like me, you'll pretend you don't see the brown gunk. This strategy works great until the gunk becomes a pulsating biohazard that threatens to move about on its own.Warm mist humidifiers don't seem to have this problem. The Vicks Vaporizer looked a bit wimpy, but with itchy skin and static electricity zapping about, anything was better than nothing.Besides, it's cheap.

First, the unit puffs out warm odorless steam as advertised. The manual says you have to add salt to the water to really get the steam going and warns vaguely about blowing fuses if you get carried away. This made me curious, so I got out my Kill-A-Watt power meter (very cool gadget by the way) to see how much juice this thing used.Turns out it REALLY matters how much salt you add.The vaporizer was puffing steam like crazy, and using over a kilowatt of power.I emptied and refilled the water, adding the maximum recommended amount of salt (1/4 teaspoon).Steam production was still fine at a more reasonable 450 Watts.

Since I had the power meter hooked up, I wondered just how efficiently the Vicks produced steam.450 Watts running all night is enough to want my money's worth. So, I performed a test.I filled the tank with exactly 192 ounces of room temperature water, added the salt, and plugged it into the power meter for the night.By morning it was done and the power meter read 0 Watts. There was still quite a bit of water in the tank, which I measured to be 50 ounces. The power meter said 3.15 kilowatt-hours (kWh) had been used. So, it took 3.15 kWh to vaporize 192 - 50 = 142 ounces of room temperature water. Is this reasonable?I calculated the energy required to vaporize 142 ounces of water as:
Energy to raise 142 oz from 21.1 C to 100 C = 0.37 kWh
Energy to boil 142 oz at 100 C = 2.53 kWh
Total = 2.9 kWh

So, the Vicks is about 92% energy efficient. Not bad.

Our electricity costs 8.3 cents per kWh, so the vaporizer costs me 26 cents per tank.

I'm very happy with the Vicks considering the price.Rather than spend much more on a big unit, I'll just buy a couple more of these.

To summarize:

The Good
* Uses no energy when tank runs low.Good for safety and economy.
* 92% energy efficient (about 26 cents of electricity per tank).
* Except for the steam itself, no outside surfaces get hot.
* Has a little light on top so you don't bump it in the dark.

The Bad (minus 1 star)
* Can't vaporize a full 1.5 gallons.Leaves about a quarter tank.
* Black particles appear in the tank. They don't stick to anything and rinse away easily.I suspect these are some electrolytic byproduct from running electricity through the salty water.
