It's now about 2 months since I bought the air purifier, and it's currently in pieces in my living room as my husband looks to replace a part. The filter stopped working this weekend after having been "finicky" for a couple of weeks. I went ahead and opened the case up (diabolically tricky to do) and saw what was obviously wrong--all of the wires connected to the "on/off, I, II, III" dial weren't attached to anything. Apparently, instead of soldering the wires, they have this really cheap plastic gizmo that is supposed to hold them in place and have them make contact only as you spin the dial. I'm surprised that it failed so quickly, because I almost always left the dial on "II," except when I would turn it off to clean it. Thankfully my husband is an engineer and he's going to see if he can replace the part or figure out a different way to route the current. So, yes, this unit performs nicely at first, but expect it to go on the fritz after a couple of months when the wires get disconnected from the dial.
This is a nice, quiet little air purifier. The major dust particle screen is a great feature and easy to clean, and I would definitely recommend it and buy it again. However, I would note two things: one, the instructions repeatedly say to just plug it in and use it. Nowhere does it tell you that the filter is wrapped in plastic that you have to remove before it will function correctly. Also, the instructions on both Oransi air purifiers I bought say that if you have pets, you should clean the filter every couple of months. Well, I'm finding plenty of dust and fur to clean off every DAY -- I can't imagine what they'd look like in a few months. I mean, I'm actually happy that I can see they're pulling that much crap out of the air, but if I'd waited to look at the filters a couple of months, like they said, I can't imagine what a mess they would be!
